This is a great piece in wonderful condition that just displays super. A very showy piece of headgear, I believe this dates to the WWI period, possibly Weimar. Its early though I believe. The helmet has all original hardware and the helmet is in great condition with no repairs or missing parts that I can see. I have never come across one of these before and don't have any reference material on this, so look at the pictures, I took several in full sun light. There is a name inside on the crown of the helmet, but the penmanship is interesting and I cant make it out. All of the leather fingers are present in the liner as is the tie. There was a brass wire carefully formed that was simply inserted into the hardware on the outside of the helmet allowing the helmet to hang from a nail or hook on the wall. I thought at first this was just the previous collectors way to hang the helmet and that he made it from an old coat hanger or something. When looking at it more closely, I am not so sure. It is well made and the loop at the end to catch the nail carefully fashioned. It will accompany the helmet in case it has always been with it. Again, it was not fastened to the helmet except by the tension in the wire.I am in the process of listing a large assortment of WWI and WWII items that all came from a long time collector so check out my other items. I offer a 30 day guarantee that all my items are authentic and as described. I will combine shipping, just request an invoice on multiple items so I can recalculate. Thanks.
