WW1 German Imperial Navy SMS Westfalen Battleship Bevo Cap Tally

Description

This is an original, bevo weave cap tally for the SMS Westfalen, a Nassau-class battleship of the Imperial German Navy that was commissioned in 1907 and saw service in the First World War. Silver lettering on black silk with finished top and bottom edge, but raw ends. The full length of the tally is 22 1/2 inches (570mm). Overall condition is very good to excellent, with no obvious wear to the letters or the fabric, although there are numerous holes from stitching, as it appears to have been removed from a cap. These are visible only when the item is held up to light. Two larger pin holes along the upper edge are of undetermined origins.
