An original WW1 German steel combat helmet complete with liner and chinstrap (please read all the way through). Shows field wear/patina overall and retains a good amount of the original paint with undisturbed natural surface. The liner is the late-war (rabbit, goat, sheep skin?) leather that has been factory dyed the gray-green as seen on German aviator crash helmets which is unusual. The metal liner ring is dated 1918 ("18") as shown. The liner is missing the twine suspension cord but the holes in the six "lobes" show distortion/elongation consistent with regular wear. Marked E.T. and size "64" on skirt. The chinstrap looks original and was made using original hardware and century old leather but was made by a friend of mine to complete the helmet. The liner has two of the three pad inserts. This helmet came from a co-worker/friend's estate several years ago and I don't know when or where he found the helmet but I know he had it for many years. If there was a backstory on the helmet, he took it with him.
